Promotions and Transfers
Please join me in congratulating Major James Shipman on his promotion to Deputy Warden at the Wrightsville Complex! Major Shipman has been an asset to Wrightsville, and with the other personnel changes, he will remain at that unit in his new role as Deputy Warden effective Sunday, January 17, 2016. Major Shipman will have his Associates Degree, and is committed to completing his Bachelor’s while serving as our newest Deputy Warden. Major Michael Lowe is transferring to Wrightsville to join this team as well.
Congratulations are also in order for Lt. Christopher Johnson who will promote to Major Johnson effective January 31, joining Warden Daryl Golden, Deputy Warden Tami Aiken, and the McPherson Unit staff! Lt. Johnson has been with the Department 22 years, and will soon complete his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Administration Management.
Additionally, Major Crook is transferring from the Maximum Security Unit to the Ester Unit effective January 31, where he will join Warden Jeremy Andrews, Deputy Wardens Antwon Emsweller and Steve Outlaw, and the staff at our newest unit! Note that the Maximum Security Unit will fill this void with a Captain once a selection is made putting it in line with other units of its size. I appreciate Warden Burl and the MSU staff for taking the Boot Camp under their umbrella earlier this month!
With the opening of the Ester Unit as a reentry unit for the Department, Deputy Warden John Wheeler who serves us as our Reentry Director, will move to the Ester Unit as well as the Prerelease staff. Yesterday the Board approved the request to phase out the Prerelease Program in its current form to be replaced with Preparing for Success. This new format will include Thinking for a Change that was developed and is available from the National Institute of Corrections, a part of the U.S. Department of Justice.
On January 31, Major Culclager will transfer to the Grimes Unit where he will join Warden Toni Bradley, Deputy Warden Deangelo Earl, Major James Hill, and the Grimes Unit staff.
Also on January 31, Major Vernon Robertson will transfer to the Cummins Unit where he will join Warden Billy Straughn, Deputy Wardens Jared Byers and Michelle Gray, Major David James, and the Cummins Unit staff at our oldest unit!
Thank you again for your work and dedication, and please stay safe!
